HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

Course Information

This course contains the skills (practical) and knowledge (theory), required for participants to provide a first aid response, life support, and effective management of casualty/s and other first aiders at an incident until the arrival of medical or other assistance. These skills and knowledge can be effectively applied in both the workplace and community settings.

Course Criteria

1. Respond to an emergency situation

  • Recognise an emergency situation
  • Identify, assess and manage immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
  • Assess casualty and recognise the need for first aid response
  • Assess the situation and seek assistance from emergency response services

2. Apply appropriate first aid procedures

  • Perform CPR in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council
  • Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
  • Obtain consent from casualty where possible
  • Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible
  • Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturers instructions
  • Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles

3. Communicate details of the incident

  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services
  • Report details of incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory & organisational policies

4. Evaluate the incident and own performance

  • Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and others involved in critical incidents
  • Participate in debriefing/evaluation to address individual needs.
Course Details

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid training is conducted as a 1 day training (minimum 5.5 hours), 9am – 4:30 pm. The training will be conducted onsite at your workplace.

All students MUST complete online pre-course study prior to attending training.

It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a mannikin placed on the floor.

Course fees are by negotiation between both parties (price on application) and payment for individuals and groups are payable prior to attendance

Delivery: Classroom based, practical component. Please wear covered footwear and comfortable clothing when attending the training.

Refresher: POA, group discounts provided

Award Issued: Students who successfully complete this training will be awarded a statement of attainment: HLTAID003 Provide First Aid; HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support; HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Course Information

This course contains all the skills and knowledge required for participants to provide CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council. These skills and knowledge can be effectively applied in both the workplace and community settings.

HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is delivered as a minimum 2.5 hour training.

The training will be conducted onsite at your workplace.

All students MUST complete online pre-course study prior to attending training.
